Multiple Photo Widgets on iPhone: A Different Bias in Each One

How to put several photo widgets on your iPhone Home Screen and show a different bias or member in each one. Covers albums, adding and setting widgets, layout ideas, and fixes.

You have more than one bias, or you want every member of your group on your Home Screen. But when you add two of Apple's Photos widgets, they tend to show similar photos, and you can't decide which photo goes where.

This guide shows how to place several photo widgets and show a different bias in each one. The key is simple: give each widget its own album.

The short answer: one widget, one album

Every widget on your iPhone can be set up on its own. Make one album per bias, then pick a different album for each widget. Widget A shows bias A, widget B shows bias B.

Apple's Photos widget can also use an album, but iPhone picks which photo to show, so you can't count on a specific shot. This guide uses BiasBoard, a photo widget app where you choose exactly which photo appears.

What you need

Check these three things before you start.

  • An iPhone on iOS 17 or later: BiasBoard widgets work on iOS 17 and later
  • BiasBoard Premium (one-time purchase): you need Premium to show different biases in different widgets. On the free plan you can still show one album in several widgets (more on this below)
  • Photos of your biases: a few for each person or member

Step 1: Make one album per bias

Open BiasBoard and use Add Album to make as many albums as you have biases.

  1. 1Tap Add Album. The photo picker opens
  2. 2Choose photos of your first bias (up to 10 at a time)
  3. 3Rename the album to your bias's name. You'll pick albums by name when you set up the widgets
  4. 4Repeat for each bias

💡 You choose which photo in the album appears in the widget. In Fixed mode, tap the circle at the top left of a photo to show that one.

Step 2: Add several widgets to your Home Screen

Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen, tap Edit at the top left, then Add Widget. Find BiasBoard, choose a size (Small, Medium, or Large), and add it.

Repeat until you have one widget per bias. It's fine if they all show the same album for now.

Step 3: Pick an album for each widget

Now set the widgets up one by one.

  1. 1Touch and hold a widget and tap Edit Widget
  2. 2Tap Album and choose the bias you want in that widget
  3. 3Tap outside the widget to close it. Do the same for the other widgets

Step 4: Adjust the photo for each size

The same photo is cropped differently in Small, Medium, and Large widgets. Medium widgets are wide, so a tall photo can cut off your bias's face.

In BiasBoard, tap a photo in the album to adjust it for each widget size: pinch to zoom and drag to move. Try a close-up for Small and an upper-body shot for Large.

Layout ideas

Pick a layout that fits how many biases you have and how you use your Home Screen.

  • Four Small widgets: four members in a 2×2 grid. Each Small widget takes the space of four app icons, so your biases fill about two-thirds of the screen
  • One Large + two Small: your ultimate bias big, the others small. This fills one page exactly. If you'd rather not rank them, give each bias their own page
  • Two Medium widgets: wide photos or duo shots, one above the other
  • A page just for your biases: keep your everyday apps on page one, and make the next page widgets only

💡 Drag a widget onto another widget of the same size to make a Smart Stack. Swipe up or down to switch between biases in one spot, which is handy when you have a big group.

Free vs. Premium

On the free plan, one album can appear in widgets. Only the album with Show in widget turned on can be chosen when you edit a widget. You can still put that same album in several widgets, for example one Small and one Large.

To line up different biases in different widgets, you need Premium. Premium is a one-time purchase, with no subscription. It lets every album appear in widgets, and also unlocks daily and manual photo switching, any border color, Transparent Wallpaper, and background removal, and removes ads.

Can't pick an album, or every widget looks the same?

If a widget doesn't show the bias you expect, check these points.

  • The album isn't in the list: on the free plan, only the album with Show in widget turned on can be chosen. Check the switch on the album in BiasBoard
  • Every widget shows the same bias: a new widget starts with the first album. Choose the album for each widget again in step 3
  • You can't tell the albums apart: open the album in BiasBoard and use Rename Album in the menu at the top right to name it after your bias
  • You changed the photo but the widget didn't update: widgets can take a moment to refresh. Opening BiasBoard once usually helps

Summary

To show a different bias in each photo widget, make one album per bias and choose an album for each widget. Adjust the photo for each size, pick a layout you like, and your biases greet you every time you unlock your phone.
